Beginning with an imaginative design and ending with a breathtaking landscape, KEI is More Than Just Another Landscaper, with Service for All Seasons.
1966: KEI begins as a simple lawn mowing business owned and operated by Michael Keating, under "Mike Keating Lawn Mowing" when he was 13. He also offered snow removal using a single snow blower out of his car.
1970:The first truck is bought, and KEI becomes incorporated. Mike still ‘does it all,’ serving approximately 30 customers year round.
1979:Awarded the Stoddard Medal and Paul Revere Tray for landscape design.
1980: Started “Seeds for Free” to encourage gardening in low-income communities; KEI begins growth from 2 crews to 30 crews by 1990, serving all of New England.
1981: Awarded the S. Lothrop Award & Mass. Horticultural Award for landscape design.
1982: Awarded the New England & National Grounds Manager of the Year; Published the Garden Update magazine; Mike begins teaching Horticulture at Becker Junior College and Mass Bay Community College.
1984: Mike is appointed to the Board of the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS).
1985: Started the Garden Update radio program on WORC and certified nationally as recognized Landscape Grounds Managers.
1987: Began the “Cleanliness through Cooperation” Campaign in Worcester.
1989: KEI begins to downsize, to focus on quality & customer service in Worcester County.
1990: Presented the Key to the City by Mayor Jordan Levy for maintaining the World War II monuments around Worcester; awarded PGMS Grounds Manager of the Year.
2000: Awarded the PGMS National Grounds Award.
